Showcasing Beauty in Work-In-Progress
6 February 2008 - What is The Idea Factory (TIF) all about? This is the question that our client often gets. This is also the question that our client finds tough to answer, believe it or not. So when Wiz Werx took on the task of revamping The Idea Factory website, we faced the challenge of conveying the concept of The Idea Factory to users. With that in mind, Wiz Werx set out to understand the services that TIF provides to its clients.
In essence, TIF is an innovation design consultancy. It means they create unique processes to help clients reinvent their businesses. They also design systematic frameworks to allow clients to sustain innovation in their organization. Their previous website, although functional, does not effectively reflect the core of the company and its values.
Wiz Werx thus had to ensure that the revamped website would effectively communicate TIF’s services and values. Besides that, the revamped website should also be a platform to build a community of clients and readership base. Done correctly, our client would enjoy a stronger online presence for branding and business development purposes.
Wiz Werx decided to use TIF’s office concept as the visual concept of the revamped website. TIF’s office looks more like a studio than your typical office setting. Hence, the landing page of the website is an image of TIF’s studio environment. To enter the site, users are prompted to click on the studio image.
Upon navigation, users will find that the site utilizes line drawings and sketches to illustrate the simplicity and beauty in work-in-progress. One of the features of TIF’s studio is a wall full of scribbles and Post It notes, contributed by anyone in the office. These eventually become innovative ideas for TIF’s clients. Thus, Wiz Werx included a sketch of this wall as one of 4 main navigation scenes of the website. Post It notes are animated to enhance users’ visual experience in this full Flash website.
A major challenge that Wiz Werx faced for this project is the constant struggle between producing visually pleasing sketch illustrations and achieving accuracy in their replication of the real image. Trust us, it was not easy!
Wiz Werx also created special sections of the website, called “Magazine”, “Virtual Concept Lab” and “What’s Happening!”. These three sections allow our client to update content or articles by themselves frequently, a strategic idea to attract repeated visits by users, hence building a readership base.
The result is a revamped website that provides a simple yet refreshing and intuitive experience for users who are trying to find out exactly what TIF is all about.
