Generating reports the “RED” way
16 June 2008 - Coke approached Wiz Werx to develop a dynamic outlet survey system, “Coke RED” that is to be implemented in the Philippines and Singapore. This system allows collection of sales and retail outlet data as well as generation of useful reports from these data that allows Coke to understand what's going on with product sales in their respective regions.
Wiz Werx approached the brief by recognising 2 basic components to be created for this system, namely the PDA Survey as well as the Web Server applications. Both applications must be able to work hand-in-hand, catering for a 2-way dynamic exchange of data/information.
The PDA Survey application is to be installed onto handheld PDAs, and used by field surveyors to conduct surveys on various outlets based on geographical locations/hierarchy. These survey results, together with inventory and outlet data can then be synced back to the Web Server application. In addition, the assigned list of outlets for the surveyor can be downloaded from the server application.
The Web Server application contains staff, surveyor and survey data (based on questionnaires completed by the surveyors). Processing of information on the Web Server application comes in the form of generation of reports for analysis by staff of Coke.
The challenge for the system was to manage an ever-growing database with server limitations, and to maintain a sustainable level of efficiency when it comes to generation of reports and output based on the questionnaire results. Wiz Werx embraced the challenge with a systematic flow and separation of reports, allowing staff to generate and download reports by pages, thus reducing processing efforts when it comes to cross-tabbing information, at every point of report generation.
The next steps to be taken, moving forward with the next phase of further implementations to the Coke RED application in the Philippines, would be to introduce a higher level of dynamism and ultimately provide a foolproof application that would fine-tune the overall product sales process in Coke.
